About Me

About me

When I was about ten, I read The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. From then on, I was a fan of science fiction and fantasy. I first tried to write a novel when I was 12 or so, which was about a man with a robot dog. It wasn’t exactly great, but I’ve been writing ever since.
I came up with Space Captain Smith as light relief while I was working on a darker fantasy novel, and was surprised and delighted when Myrmidon Books wanted to publish it! Space Captain Smith was first published in 2008, and since then I’ve written five sequels and a related stand-alone book, The Imposters.
The darker fantasy novel turned out to be Up To The Throne, the first in the Dark Renaissance series. I’ve also written a novel and several short stories for Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 setting, as well as articles for Fantasy Faction and the New Law Journal.
I qualified as a barrister in 2001, and I’ve worked in a variety of legal jobs. I still work in the law, but if any opportunities for dragon-riding or space adventure come up, I’d be interested. When not writing, I’m usually reading or converting and painting model kits. I’m represented by John Jarrold at www.johnjarrold.co.uk.
